We are absolutely delighted to be working in collaboration once again with the Local Landscapes & Hidden Histories project to deliver a small series of guided walking tours of Lincoln’s historic green spaces.
Lincoln’s green spaces are diverse mix of formal landscaped parks, centuries old common land, former grounds of historic houses and leafy woodland. They are an important part of the city and it’s heritage, with stacks of fascinating history to tell!
We organize regular walking tours of Lincoln and it’s history, but this is a great way of getting out beyond the historic core of the city centre and seeing another side to Lincoln. It is also a wonderful way of getting into the fresh air and being active.
What is the Local Landscapes & Hidden Histories project?
The Local Landscapes & Hidden Histories project is a three year community drive heritage project funded through the National Lottery Heritage Fund and City of Lincoln Council. The project is a place-based heritage project, which works with communities, individuals and organisations across the city.
The project focuses on seven local green spaces, each with their own unique landscape character and set of tangible and intangible heritage assets. These include Lincoln Arboretum, South Common and Cow Paddle, Boultham Park, Hartsholme Park, Birchwood Nature Park and West Common.
They encourage members of the public to share their memories and items so that a publicly available archive can be building, recording the history of these green spaces. At Lincoln Free Walking Tour, we are doing our bit by sharing some of the space’s fascinating history and helping to facilitate conversation with locals and visitors in respect of our heritage.
